The Institute of Tropical Medicine

The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM), Antwerp is one of the world's leading institutes for training, research and services delivery in tropical medicine and health care in developing countries. It is strongly committed to academic excellence and genuine partnership for the promotion of "Health Care for All". The mission of the Animal Health Department is to improve the health and well-being of the human populations in the tropics by developing, disseminating and applying scientific knowledge of tropical livestock diseases.

The ITM therefore operates in a confluent between human and animal health and between north and south experience. The ITM relies on a wide network of alumni distributed in the medical or the veterinary sectors in various universities, ministries, NGO and clinics throughout the tropics. Finally, the ITM supervises a number of projects and PhD studies on zoonoses.
